Welcome to the Key Stage 3 Pages

Key Stage 3 takes you from Year 7 to Year 9. Our Key Stage 3 science courses are organised by modules of study.

Student work from our Key Stage 3 students can be found here.

(Note: Because the current Year 9 at Nether Stowe are the last to go through the Spotlight Scheme, we have taken the decision to not generate resources for Year 9. Next year, when our Year 9 modules will have changed, we will begin to add resources to support the new modules. If you are revising for your Key Stage 3 SATs exams, remember that you need to know the Year 7 and Year 8 stuff too!)

Information about our Key Stage 3 courses

Year 7 & Year 8

(New for 2003-4) Year 7 and 8 are following the Hodder Science Course. The Hodder Scheme closely follows the QCA (government-recommended) sequence of lessons.

The CASE programme

CASE is a programme of Thinking Skills Lessons that students in Year 7 are given about once every two weeks. CASE lessons differ from usual science lessons in that the emphasis is on the students investigating and explaining scientific ideas on their own. The lessons include a series of structured practical exercises and thought-experiments. CASE has proven benefits for the development of students' understanding of science. Remarkably, students going through the CASE programme also show improved results in English and Mathematics!

Year 9

Year 9 are currently following the Spotlight Science course. In 2004 all Key Stage 3 students will be following the Hodder Scheme.
